Schalke’s Manuel Neuer decides to stay quiet over his future ahead of the Cup final; Bundesliga News
Schalke 04’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Neuer-c23424 has decided to keep his lips sealed over his future until the DFB Pokal final against the second division team, MSV Duisburg. Both teams will lock heads on Saturday, May 21 at Olympiastadion.
Neuer has strongly been linked with a move to fellow Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich, but refrained from giving any hints about his future. The goalkeeper insisted that he would like to focus on the upcoming Cup final rather than ponder over his future.
The 25-year-old, in spite of finishing 14th in the League, enjoyed a terrific spell with the club and attracted a lot of attention from several top European clubs. English Premier League winners, Manchester United, also expressed their desire
to sign the shot-stopper but had to back off after Neuer’s decided to stay put in Germany.
The German International, though, looks likely to leave the club at the end of the season after he decided against the signing of a new contract. The goalkeeper’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the upcoming 2011/12 campaign.
In an interview to a local television channel, Neuer wished to end the season on a high and thought that lifting a trophy would be more than welcome by both the club and the fans. He further added that whether he plays at Schalke or at Munich, he would be
staying in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 for sure.
Bayern’s coach, Jupp Heynckes, on the other hand, confirmed that Schalke’s game against Duisburg will be Neuer’s last for the club. The manager was confident that Bayern officials would strike a deal with the 25-year-old before the start of the new season.
The German hoped to see his side winning the Cup final and urged them to stay focused and composed ahead of the important game. He confirmed that his side are under no pressure and would perform at their level best on Saturday.
He concluded by saying, "We know what is at stake. This is not a normal league game, but a cup final. It is a unique opportunity for us to get a title. I am convinced that we will win."
Schalke were beaten 2-1 in their last game of this year’s Bundesliga campaign by 1. FC Koln on Saturday, May 14.
