Schedule of 2011 FIVB Men’s World Cup unveiled – Volleyball news
Soon after the successful completion of the qualification process for the 2011 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup, the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has publicised the final schedule of the competition.
The 2011 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup is set to take place in Japan from November 20 to December 4 with twelve teams from all across the globe. The grid of 12 teams was recently finalised via continental qualification tournaments. 10 out of 12 teams earned
their tickets for the World Cup through hard competitions, while two teams clawed their way into the tournament by wild-card entries. The following teams will be on board to contest their game skills in front of the international audience in Japan:
1. Japan
2. Cuba
3. United State
4. Brazil
5. Argentina
6. Egypt
7. Italy
8. China
9. Iran
10. Russia
11. Poland
12. Serbia
According to the set competition formula, initially the teams will be divided in to two groups. The tournament will be opened with a preliminary round robin, where the 2007 champions Brazil will cross paths with Egypt on the opening day of the tournament.
European Champion Serbia is scheduled to begin their campaign against Argentina. The two sides share a great rivalry as Argentina dismissed Serbia at the finals of the FIVB Volleyball World League 2011. Likewise, the hosts Japan will take on its Asian rival
Iran on the opening day of the tournament. Iranian team downed Japan in the group stages of the Asian Championship last month. Japan was already confirmed for the World Cup for being the host nation. Otherwise, things would have been quite different for Japan.
Poles will try their luck against 2010 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship silver medallists team Cuba. The Caribbean squad qualified for this edition of World Cup after a long break of 12 years. Hence, it will be a great chance for them to perform
well and benefit from this opportunity.
The two giants of volleyball world, Italy and Russia, will also come together on the opening day, while China and USA will also take centre stage.
The World Cup will serve as the first volleyball qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympic Games and it will provide three Olympic tickets to the successful teams of the competition.
