Schedule of opening matches at 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship - Volleyball
The action of between the Under-20 women’s volleyball teams is scheduled to begin today, Friday, July 22, with the preliminary round matches of the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru. The tournament will complete its run from July 22 to
31. A total of sixteen teams are on board which have been further divided into four pools.
Pool A – Peru, Egypt, Tunisia, and Slovakia Pool B – Brazil, Serbia, Italy, and Cuba Pool C – Belgium, United States, South Korea, and Poland Pool D – Japan, Dominican Republic, China, and Russia
In Pool A of the World Championship, Tunisia and Slovakia are scheduled to inaugurate the proceedings as the city of Trujillo will host the first match of the tournament. Tunisia and Slovakia are both rated as average teams and neither one has claimed any
medal in the history of this event. The Tunisian team is keeping the African hopes alive in the competition.
The second match in Pool A will bring together Peru and Egypt on the court. The hosts will take on the guest team in the evening as local fans and Head Coach, Natalia Malaga, is looking forward to nice show of volleyball by her team.
Top-team and favourites of the Junior World Championship, Brazil, is ready to rumble with Italy. Brazil lost the gold-medal to the Dominican Republic in the previous edition of the championship and is looking to cover the deficit this time. The Brazilian
team owns the most number of medals of the FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship and they are already tipped to claw their way to the finals. Currently, Italy is a struggling team which has just one silver medal to its name.
Serbia and Caribbean team from Cuba are also gearing up for a cracking fight in the second match of Pool B. The Cuban team is considered better as it has some experienced players and they have a better record in the previous championships.
Teams from Poland and South Korea will meet in the opening match of Pool C. Korea will be playing with the confidence of six medals, which they have earned in the previous years. South Korea is one of the top three teams as far as the ranking are concerned.
On the other hand, Team USA is ready give a hard time to Belgium in the second match of this group.
The defending champion, Dominican Republic, has an easy match against Japan in Pool D. China and Russia will cross ways in the second match of Pool D. The Coliseo Eduardo Dibos competition hall in Lima will set up the field of play for Pool D matches.
