Scheduling not ideal for Test cricket preparation complains http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Howard – Cricket News Update
Australian team performance manager, Pat Howard, feels that the current scheduling has hindered his team’s chances of preparing adequately for Test cricket.
Howard discussed the situation as a warning for all Test playing nations, where the advent of T20 has increasingly consumed the necessary preparatory period for players, who are now forced to play cricket all year long, most of it being the shortest version.
His objection came after the team was forced to release fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945 from the Test squad after he was named 12th man. The current regulation means that the player will be available for his club endeavours if not picked by his national
team. With the left-hander not a part of the playing XI for the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, which starts tomorrow at Hobart, he is likely to come out for his Big Bash franchise until a Test duty calls.
Taking Johnson’s example as large, Howard felt that preparing for future ventures will become a whole lot tough as the team will frequently lose fringe players. Same could be said for some of the other Test hopefuls, where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Doolan-c983 will
turn out for their respective BBL teams rather than taking part in four-day cricket and get used to the red-ball.
While Howard said that the management is carefully examining the current scenario, it has become increasingly difficult for them to find the right balance. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the Ashes.
"It's not a perfect world, you want to be able to deal with all the different formats, and it's complicated. But it's complicated for everybody," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Howard-c63371 said. "I actually think dealing with this challenge will take a couple of years for all countries, and
they're dealing with it in different ways," Howard said, while talking to ESPNcricinfo.
"The scheduling is difficult. In saying this, you get plenty of warning - it's not like they put that schedule up against you a week in advance. So we know this same round of BBL is between Test one and Test two of the Ashes next year, we're well across
that. "
