Question:

Schengen visa duration of stay?

I applied for Schengen visa and my applciation was approved. The visa is valid for Aug 10, 2008 - Sep 04, 2008 and 10 days duration of stay.

I'll be arriving at Amsterdam on August 12th and originally I was planning to leave on the 19th. But now I'm thinking to extend it and stay till the 22nd. I realize it's exactly 10 days but the problem is my flight arrives in Amsterdam early in the morning on the 12th and my return flight leaves around noon on the 22nd (if I were to change it).

Will I have a problem with the immigration if I do change my return flight to the 22nd? It IS still 10 days based on the date... but if they look at the exact time, it's more than 10 days.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

  1. This is a specific question as to how the 10 days are interpreted.  As a result the only people that can say for sure are the ones that issue the visa - ie the Dutch embassy officials in your home country (where you applied for the visa in the first place)

Answers from Yahoo Answers for legal things like this, hold no weight with an airport immigration officer.  So I would strongly advise you to get an official answer for this

  2. A day counts a day, regardless of the arrival time. So when you are arriving on Augúst 12th with a 10 day visa you must have left on August 21st by 24:00 hours.
