The Manchester United legend claims that he has been impressed by the Spaniard’s mental strength and that his shot stopping ability is second to none.
While not enduring the best of starts to life at the Theatre of Dreams, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463 has slowly but surely morphed into a goalkeeper that could be guarding the Reds’ net for the next decade or so.
The Spanish International initially struggled to establish himself in the English Premier League, but a combination of superb saves and rising confidence saw him become the club’s undisputed starter in May.
While he retained his position into the new campaign, a slip-up saw http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anders-Lindegaard-c5553 back in the fold and the Dane has been temping for De Gea since then, with the former Atletico Madrid man currently sidelined with teeth problems.
However, with recovery being only a short while away, Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson could relegate Lindegaard to the bench once more and allow his Spanish protégé to make his return.
While the youngster still has his critics, United’s most revered goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel is not one of them and claims that he has been won over by De Gea’s mental fortitude and ability to make crucial saves.
"I admire http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409. I cannot remember anyone coming into Manchester United and being criticised the way he was. He was ridiculed every day. He was the subject of every debate in the media. Yet he still went out there with a smile on his face and managed to
dig himself out of it,” added the ex-Denmark International.
Continuing, he added that the player had no qualms despite being criticized on all fronts and bore everything patiently without effecting his performances, which is quite remarkable for someone so young.
"Very slowly he is working his way away from what people thought of him 18 months ago. You haven't seen him defend himself in the media or shifting the blame elsewhere. He just gets on with it. He is young. At 22 he has things to learn but, mentally, there
is definitely material there,” Schmeichel was quoted as saying while speaking to the media.
