  1. use www.imahal.com to find college/university according to your GRE score.

  2. Different scholarships have different requirements and different processes or obtaining the scholarship. Few have an absolute minimum GPA, though many tend to choose those with higher GPAs.

Some scholarships are competition-related, you have to compete and win in order to get the scholarship. There are some that revolve around robotics teams. One of the more interesting scholarships is the duct tape prom dress. Students make a prom dress and tux out of duct tape, send in their photos to the scholarship sponsor. Whoever is deemed the best, gets the scholarship.

Most scholarships require an essay. The decisions will be based on the essay written by the applicants. For example, there is an Ayn Rand scholarship every year. Applicants have to read a novel by Ayn Rand (different novel every year) and write an essay on it.

Some are purely need based. Whoever needs the money the most, based on parents' financial situation, gets the scholarship.

Many scholarships require only an application. The choice is made based on that application.

There are many different types of scholarships out there. In theory, every college-bound student should be able to get at least one, many people just don't apply. Most scholarships are sponsored by universities or organizations, though there are many community-, family- and church-based scholarships as well.

Use sites like http://www.fastweb.com/ or http://www.scholarships.com/ to find general listings. Also, if you know which college(s) you are interested in, use their websites to find scholarships sponsored by the school.

Do research within your community as well. Go to the city's and county's website and search if they offer scholarships to students from the area.

If you have a job, find out if the company that you're working for offers scholarships for employees. Many, such as Burger King and Cinemark do. Also, many companies make scholarships available for the children of employees. Ask your parents if they can find out if the companies that they work for sponsor scholarships.
