Question:

Scholarship essay?

I'm a sophomore in high school and I want to earn some scholarships by writing essays so I don't have to depend on my parents so much for college. They don't make too money and I wouldn't want to be a burden on them. My goal is to go to UC Berkley and I'd like to earn some money for college.

I want to write some essays, but I don't think I'm good at it. I've turned in a couple before, but never got a winning response.

How easy is it to win one of these contests (what are the odds of me winning)

I'd like to write some more, but don't want to waste my time in doing something I don't think I'll win.

Can someone please give me some tips? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

  1. Here are some websites that help with essay writing. You also might want to partner up with an English instructor at your school so that you can get help. Good Luck!!!

  2. Fastweb.com is a great website.

Your chances are one in a million.  You are competing against the sophomores, juniors, and seniors of the United States, its usually nationwide.  Scholarships will be difficult to get, at least until Senior year, you usually have to be perfect (write a PERFECT essay, or be a PERFECT student w/ a combination on leadership, 250+ hrs. a year community service, a hardship, financial need, 3.9+ GPA, AP/honors classes, a theme, awards, sport and much more!)

Now, Senior year might be a little bit better because you can apply for the more local scholarships and your chances will be better.

That doesn't mean you still shouldn't apply, keep trying, and at least if you don't win anything, you will have scholarship writing experience and you will know how applications go.

    Good luck.
