hi i live in the state of MI i'm 17 almost 18 next month and have always wanted to go to beauty school now here is the problem i have been benn in penn foster since 9th grade my mom has cancer and we have recently recieved custody of my younger cousin so needless to say cannot afford to pay for it so i was wonder if anyone would be able to give me an idea where i can get a scholarship do to my family situation thanks

  1. Is your mom your biological or adoptive mother?  There is a scholarship for children with a parent with cancer.  I think the info can be found on the American Cancer Society web site (www.cancer.org).  

    Also, see what school-specific scholarships may be available.  Ask your school counselor or the financial aid office at the school you will be attending.

    did you fill out your FAFSA? you could qualify for some grants

  3. Try Fastweb.com, also look for a college that gives generous Financial Aid - Ivies, Amherst .  . .  Generally, if you describe your situation in the Financial Aid app, they will consider it. Also, apply for smaller scholarships. Big once are really tough to get. The $500, $1000 ones add up and are a great help.
