My son is a junior in high school. He has played the bassoon for 6 yrs, the clairnet for 7 yrs and bass guitar for about 1 yr. Can anyone give me any suggestions for colleges that offer scholarships for musicians. We have been told that he is talented and picks up music quickly. He is also playing for the All Valley Honors Band.

  1. Most colleges with a music department give out scholarships.  Keep in mind, most departments also make these scholarships competitive.  He must audition for these scholarships.  It also depends on what school he is looking.  I went to a state school, but the music department there had about 20-30 different scholarships to give out annually ranging from $200-$4000/year.  Check with the music departments nearby to get an idea of what you are looking at.  Also, check for any college music directors coming around to local high schools to do auditions.  They do that sometimes as well.
