I'm going to be sophomore in high school and this year I really would like to organize some type of charity event at my school like a basketball tournament or blood drive, then pick a charity and donate all the money we raise. How exactly would I go about planning an event???

  1. The best thing to do is get a team together! It is really hard planning a huge event by yourself so ask a few friends to help you out. You could also ask a teacher for help because sometimes it's hard getting through all that red-tape stuff, such as dealing with the principal or other authorities, so having a teacher really helps.

Once you get together a team, delegate specific duties to each person, such as leader (could be you), advertising, concessions, ticket sales or whatever.

Advertising is super important when having a school wide event because more people=more money! It is also important to get people excited about your cause so they'll want to participate. This could be part of your advertising technique. (ex: Help out hungry kids in Africa by buying our cookies!)

A blood drive could be difficult to organize because you'll have to collaborate with a blood bank, but it's not impossible; you'll have to contact your local blood bank.

A sports tournament is a great idea- maybe you can get your school to allow students to go to it by getting out of class early- that would be an incentive.

Or how about a talent show? Open auditions to the whole school, pick a good amount of acts, charge an entrance fee, sell concessions.

Generating a lot of money depends on how well it is organized and advertised. Good luck!
