School Records: any effects?

Hello, If you were to get prosecuted by a District Attorney, Can he use records of of bad behavior at my school? Or does he only have access to a previous criminal record? For example. Lets say a person gets into some trouble at school for something minor that causes this person to get Detention BUT NOT suspended (and the principal tells the student "This will go on your record". Then this person goes on (a few months later) and Does something that may cause legal action to occur. Can anyone (besides the school) access records that a person got at school? (that had nothing to do with whatever type of legal action that may happen)

  1. Hello ,

School records are public information . A good prosecuter will look deep and far . However .. there are limits reguarding the statutes .

  2. School records are just that school records.  They are normally not used in criminal prosecution.  However, the principal and counselors at the school are considered an extension of the juvenile courts.  That means those records are in fact juvenile court records and subject to subpoena into criminal court.

The only time I have ever see this done, was when a juvenile was certified to stand trial as an adult.  His record in school was used to show his past violent criminal behavior and the need to certify him as an adult.
