Question:

School Schedule: What should I do?

My school only requires 3 math credits to graduate. I got 1 credit freshmen year, and 1 in sophomore year. I also took Algebra I and passed the final for it in middle school giving me one high school credit. That gives me 3 total credits for math. I have calculus scheduled for this year, but that was before I realized I had a credit from middle school. I know colleges like you to have a math class senior year so should I just take this class off my schedule and take it senior year and have a break from math for a year

  1. dont middle school dosent count and calculas is a good thing to learn

  2. Consider what you want to major in during college- if you need to get into the business or engineering college, chances are you'll need that fourth year of math. However if you are planning to go into the liberal arts college you most likely won't need it.  I know you may not even know what you want to major in, but still, if you want to have options with what college within the college you want to get into, then take the 4th year.

Also, it depends on the school your trying to get into. You check where you stand in the admissions by using the 'how do i stack up' in fastwebs.com or collegeboard.com. :] hope that helped.

  3. Go with your gut. ;]

  4. I'm kinda confused right now because my school system is a little different.

    If you're smart in 8th- algebra 1

    9th- geometry

    10th- algebra 2

    11th- pre-cal

    12th- cal

If your profession will require math, then i advise you to take pre-cal this year then cal senior year because then it will be easier to do better in cal since its not as a huge leap from alg 2 to cal.  I'm sorry if this isn't how your school system works.

If your profession will require math, then i advise you to take cal senior year since you will be taking higher level math courses in college and cal will still be fresh in your memory.  I hope I helped either way.

  5. I think it depends on what you plan on going to college for? If you are even possibly going for a major that will require you to take a calculus I would take it right now in high school. That way in college you won't have to pay for it! And believe me, it will be wonderful to have to pay for one less class! Student loans add up and it gets expensive! Good luck though, I am sure you will make the right choice!
