  1. I think they are great! It prevents teasing, (when all children wear the same clothes, you can't see socialeconomic status) prevents dress code violations, and children don't get as focused on trends and who has what. Also if everyone is wearing the same thing, some kids dont get left out ( I.E. special needs children or obese/underweight children may not be able to wear certain clothes not being easy to put on, being the wrong size won't be left out of a fashion trend because its the same outfit for all).

It also saves the parents time and money.

  2. Our local community school requires a uniform too.  They are inexpensive and easy to care for.  They look nice and tidy and prevent a lot of dress code problems that I see as a teacher in a non-uniform school.   It also gives of the distinct impression that school is an important place, separate from free time.  I find children wearing a uniform know that they represent something and thus, their behavior is better.  I definitely support the uniform policy.

  3. They introduced uniforms to the elementary school in the area we were in as a way to get them used to it so that as the slowly brought it to other schools it would be accustomed to. They limited the middle and high school to polo shirts and denim or khakis only, but the middle school had to wear belts but both upper grade schools had to have shirts tucked in.  It was great at first. To alleviate the rivaling in clothing brands and appropriateness but other things soon came up.  Tennis shoes were the required footwear but then it started up about who had the best shoes, back pack, and so on.  For the most part I think it is a good idea, they make them affordable and easy to care for and it does save on shopping for school clothes.  As long as the other issues don't come up too often it stays nice and the kids enjoy it too.  But some parents endorse their children in the quest to be better than others and get the special back pack ordered online or specially made or the $100 dollar one from the boutique and it starts taking the peace out of it.

  4. My kids are attending the Schools of Excellence. All kids are required to wear uniforms from elem. right on up to high school. I don't like the uniforms, but it helps. This school is strict on how the uniforms should be worn. Belts at ALL times, pants pulled up properly, shirts tucked in far enough to show the belt. Girls can wear skorts-(skirt with built in shorts)-until they reach high school. They are not allowed to wear hoodies or anything of the sort. If the kids don't wear their uniforms properly, the parents of the kids are called.

  5. Its good for grade school. High school should be open. It stops the competition between name brands and how appearance can judge one another. Stops alot of teasing for not being trendy, (as the parents dont always know what is in style). And it saves money on clothes and laundry days.

  6. I think uniform are a great idea for all schools actually. That way nobody will get made fun of because of how they dress.Or they don't have the latest fashion.Uniforms eliminates alot of problem at some school..I think anyways

  7. I think wearing a school uniform is wonderful espacially with girls.  You don't have to have the fights about what they are going to wear.  It makes getting ready for school so much easier.

  8. School uniforms rock!  None of the "what should I wear conundrum" for the kids and none of the "what should I buy my kids" parental shopping angst.

  9. My daughters last school required uniforms.  I loved it!  No deciding what she would wear....had 6 shirts and 6 pants/skirts and that was her school wardrobe :)

  10. My kids wear uniforms.  I know some parents claim it prohibits their kids "individuallity" I say that individuallity is a personality trait not a physical one.  Clothes aren't what makes a persion an individual.

  11. I wore a uniform and loved it...no deciding what to wear in the am....

  12. EVERY child - elementary and high school - wears a uniform to school in Australia.  No questions asked.

No arguments in the morning about appropriateness of school clothing.

No pressure on Mom to buy the latest gear.

No separating out the rich kids from the poor kids by the brands they wear.

    Love it!

  13. I wish my kids schols had uniforms, they save $$ and the kids can actually concentrate on school work and not who is wearing what and how much did it cost.

  14. Love it , love it, love it!!! My son wears a uniform. He didn't like it at first when they introduced it 3 years ago, but he's OK with it only because everyone else has to wear it.

As a parent, it's so much easier. When my son attends field trips along with other schools there... it helps with what school they belong to. My sons school colors are navy blue or khaki pants with white or navy blue shirts. All shirts have the schools emblem on it.

BTW: I think they really need to have uniforms for the higher grades more so then elementary. The clothes they wear these day's... UGH!!

  15. I think school uniforms are so cool because the children are not in competition of who's wearing what and what's better than that.  My son didn't want to at first but when he noticed that everyone has to wear them he was ok with it.  The only thing he gets to show off is his sneakers and his hair do.  It's cute.  Also, it much less expensive overall to just have the uniforms.  My son even keeps it on if we go out later in the evening...he's not fussing about having to change; at times I'm the one fussing at him to get him to change.  I hope this helps.

  16. I went to Catholic school for 12 years, and wore a uniform the whole time.  I hated it!  I would not recommend it.

  17. I've attended both public schools and private schools--while at private school I wore a uniform. I don't strongly like or dislike uniforms, but I didn't mind wearing one. On the one hand, it sends the message that school is about learning and not about appearances, but on the other hand, it doesn't really erase socioeconomic disparties among the students, as some people believe. So, I wouldn't mind having my kid wear a uniform at school, but I don't strongly endorse it.

  18. I think it's a good idea for middle school and high school only.  That's where the pressure is to wear "cool clothes".  Elementary kids dont care.

  19. I think school uniforms are a great idea.  My kids didn't mind wearing them at all until they reached high school.

  20. My kids also wear uniforms - 5 pants 5 shirts - everyone wears the  same and there  is no discrimination.  Every so often they get "free dress" and that is a treat.  Keeps clothing costs down - until they go to wear something they havent worn in a long time and it no longer fits!

  21. I have mixed emotions.  My children all had to wear them in elementary school.  At first I thought it was a great idea, no having to decide what to wear, easy wash and wear (no iron needed), I could pass them down from child to child providing they were still in good condition.  (Unlike street clothing that goes "out of style").  To a degree I still like the idea. To another degree, I really hate it.  Because I want the uniforms to remain in good condition, I require that my children change into play clothes when they get home.  So, I know have twice the amount of clothing to purchase (uniforms and street clothing for after school and weekends) and twice the laundry.  So on this particular subject, my opinion is very mixed.

  22. I think uniforms are a great idea!!  You'll still see the blue shorts hanging off the butts, and the hoodie white sweatshirts, but it's helpful anyway to most involved

  23. I think it's preety good because kids won't be able to make fun of eachother's clothes because they'll all be wearing very similar things.
