Question:

School & Weight Loss...Possible?

I go to school & when I get home I am SWAMPED w/ homework. I don't have any time to do anything but school, work, tan, & sleep. I barely have time to eat. But I need to drop 20 lbs. I tore my MCL 2 summers ago so I can't do a lot using my left knee. Other than dieting (already doing) what are some exercises that I can do in a short amount of time that won't be too hard on my knee?

  1. For your stomach, a very simple isolation exercise that will flatten a belly quickly: Lie on your back with both your knees bent, feet on the floor. Hands behind your head, relax your neck and make sure the tension is on your abs. And just raise and lower your head a couple inches off the floor. The idea is to work the deep, under muscle in your abs, NOT the top ones. To check if you're doing it right, put one hand on your stomach as you do and you should feel softness kind of on the top of your abs, but a tightening underneath that runs the length of your belly.

    For hips- Lay on your back, legs straight out. Cross one leg over the other, and raise and lower 10-12 times. Do more sets as you can. To check if this is being done right, place one hand on your hip when lifting your leg and you should feel the muscle around that area and to the side of your butt working.

    For overall fat burning, or to shed a few excess pounds I recommend low level belly dancing-there's lots of DVDs for this out there. A lot of it is not real stressful on your body, but active enough to burn calories, and many of the movements involved in it don't involve locking or tightening of the knees, but rather encourage softness and flexibility in them. And the isolation of specific muscle groups makes awesome curves!!


  2. First of all, why do you have to tan? If you cut that out, that would give you time to exercise.  It's not good for you anyhow.  How about just walking.  That shouldn't hurt your knee.

  3. Don't stop eating!

    That can lead to serious injury!

    Drink plenty of water and eat plenty.

    Exercise instead of tanning so exercise will use up that amount of time.

    PLEASE EAT! I had a friend who thought she was too fat and began eatting just a slice of cheese per day and NO water.

    She was hospitalized because she was too dehyrated and it took three weeks to recover!

  4. an eliptical machine is easy on the knees! try a few mins on it, i know they can be expensive but i found some as cheap as 99 dollars!

  5. I walk home from school to stay healthy.

    about 45 mins walk for me.

    You can try running to/from school, if it's too far and you take the bus, get off early. or have your parents drop you off a bit further from schol.

  6. leg crunches-20 a day. sit ups-20 a day for everyday of the week and in like a month or 2 you will notice your stomach and legs more toned.
