I know the sign says "25MPH When Children Are Present"

So does that mean the 25mph speed limit only applies if you can see children?

When is it ok to drive through a school zone exceeding 25mph.

  1. never when the lights are flashing,if you do and get caught, the fines are astronomical, beleive me,been there done that.No matter if you see kids or not.

  2. AS a DRIVING INSTRUCTOR that I am.

The sign is not specific but the LAW says....

    WHEN CHILDREN ARE PRESENT 25mph

this is when they ae walking and going to school

    after school  and lunch breaks.

NOT when 1 or 2 kids are present. Usually only during 8-4 M-F

  3. no it says 25mph during school hours

It has the hours posted on the signs

    cant remember what they are

anytime other than those hours it is fine to go the regular posted limit

  4. If their are children in the area like on the sidewalk ( if any ) then you got to slow down. Most of the times its only when school is in session ( Give or take a few hours from start time and let  the kids go time ) and Monday thru Friday.

  5. at night you can go 100mph no one cares because no ones there

  6. Like most said, it's better to be safe than sorry.  Besides...  is 5 seconds going to improve your arrival time, versus the half hour you will lose if you get stopped and cited.

Something to keep in mind.... every state has different rules and regulations regarding School Zones.  Some are 20 mph, during school hours, other are only when children are present.... and then there is Oregon.  Some, but not all of their School Zones are 24/7/365.  That means at 3:00am on a Sunday morning, you are still bound by that 20 mph speed limit.

Don't take the chance.  It's not worth it.

  7. When children are not present.

  8. Follow the school zone speed limits during the normal hours students are going to or leaving school.  The hours vary from school to school and from state to state.  Here in my city, the hours are from 07:30 to 09:00 in the morning and 14:30 to 16:00 in the afternoon.  The school zone speed limit is 15 MPH in my city.

If anyone speeds in a school zone, especially while children are present, then expect to receive a ticket, hands down.

I hope this answered your question.

  9. some schools are open 7 days a week

it aslo means if you see kids playing on the playground

    (not just crosssing the street)

but why rush with kids around slow down (it couldnt hurt to slow

    down near any school )

  10. i would not risk it,,,a speeding ticket will cost a few bucks but you insurance can go up hundreds for years...suppose you don't see kids but a cop said he did..ur screwed

  11. It means at times when school is letting in or letting out. Through the off peak hours you can do the regular speed limit.

  12. Most of the signs will have the hours posted on them but in most states the hours are between 7:00am to 9:00am and 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

  13. So what's the big deal aout slowing down, regardless of the time?????

    Just slow the h**l down!
