  1. Are you already a high school graduate?  Is there a community college nearby where you can take some courses?  Online is an option that is getting bigger and better every year.

Some basic questions need to be answered though, like the very first one.  That will determine what your options are.  Don't bother with the GED if you don't have a diploma, just check with your local junior college (or regular university) to see if they have a program to apply college credits toward a state issued high school diploma.  In Oklahoma it is called Ability to Benefit.  You take a test pre-entrance to make sure you will benefit from a college education.  Then all the credits you take are applied to your diploma.  (18 are required I think)

Another big question is what do you want to do?  That will give you another set of options to explore.

What about timing.  Are you the sole caretaker?  Do you have a job you will need to work around?

I'd love to see some more specifics so we can head you in a good direction to find just the right fit for you!

  2. In your situation, I'd take it easy. Sign up for a foreign language course (community college, language school), and see how you handle a academic setting. If you enjoy it, and wish to continue in your education, you can start looking for a way to become a part time/ on-line student and earn a degree.

The GED mentioned earlier is also a great idea, if you haven't finished high school.

  3. First off, you need to figure out what field you want to go into. One way you can figure out what interests you, is to look at the want ads to see what kind of careers might interest you. Or, you can go to college websites and look at their majors to see what interests you.

Once you have that figured out, you will have to find the type of school that works for you. Since you are a mother of two, you'll probably have to go part-time. It will take you longer to complete your degree/certificate, but for most adults it is the only option.

Lastly, once you have found a school that looks like it "fits the bill", then you apply. I don't know what your financial situation is, but all schools offer some sort of financial aid for which you can apply for if it is needed.

    Good luck!

  4. Alot of colleges and universities have online programs, if thats not the case, ask the School District about GED classes, i teach a class i'm 21, most the people are older than i am, classes are twice a week from 6 to 8:30, we have alot of fun, and we provide child care for ages 3-10, set urself a goal and meet it.
