Question:

School or Friends?

My school is paying for me to go to this Technical Institute. I want to go for Cosmetology. Cosmo is my dream job. But it means leaving my high school, which means leaving almost all my friends. (Three of my friends also go this scholarship.) I'm really thinking twice about going. My friends want me to go because they know how much it means to me, but then at the same time they tell me not to go because they'll miss me. I'll really miss them too. They have been my best friends for like 3 years now. It breaks my heart to leave them. But then again this is such a great opportunity. All I have to do is pay for my kit (scissors, hair straightener, curlers etc.) And my books. Which all comes out to be about $500 dollars. I don't have to pay for any of the teaching. I take this instead of my electives so I'll have Cosmo instead of the usual ya know gym, computer tech, wood shop etc. If I went to college for this it would be about $25,000 to get everything that I'm getting here for $500.

  1. If i were you i would deff ditch the friends an go for your dream career an meet new people! You cant pass that down girl. But just follow your heart. Good luck!

  2. Cosmo is your dream, you have to live it out. Friends don't last forever, I was friends with someone for 8 years and it didn't even last, and we were best friends. If they are really your friends they will support you in you going and doing that, and they will be there when you get back. And you can write them, text, call, email, myspace, facebook, ect... It all depends on do you have enough money for this $500 is a lot. But if you do, it is worth it, go for it. Have fun and good luck. Hope you make the right decision. ---Jules

  3. SCHOOL!  Take advantage of the wonderful opportunity you have!  You can still be friends with your friends and hang out after school and on the weekends.  Plus, you'll meet new friends at your new school.

I never would have believed this (and didn't want to!) when I was in high school, b/c I thought that those were the closest friends I'd ever have, but chances are (no matter where you go to school now), you and your HS friends will eventually grow apart, and you'll find other, wonderful friends.

Don't worry about leaving your friends - that doesn't mean losing them...and definitely utilize what you're being offered! :)

  4. This is part of life. Millions of people do this all the time when they decide to go to a different college than their friends. I live in missouri and my two closest high school friends are now in Pittsburgh and INDIA! But whenever they come home, we're still great friends and nothing has changed. We're all 20 now and have been friends since we were 13. If they're your good friends, distance won't ruin anything.

Plus, you'll make a lot of new friends in cosmetology school. If it's your dream, don't let anything stop you.

  5. You've got to go with what is going to be best for your future, which sounds like it's going to this cosmo school. You will make friends there and with email, telephone, car, plane, etc. you can still visit with your old friends and see them on holidays, etc. Believe me...I've been out of high school for 11 years and I'm glad I made decisions to go away to college. I made many friends there that today I consider to be the best in the world. I also met my fiance through these friends. Going away opens up opportunities you wouldn't otherwise have.

  6. Honestly, you have to think about what you want in life, do what feels right to you because who knows if you  all will even continue to be friends in the future, you shouldn't hold your self hostage because your friends say they'lll miss you and just because you'll go to this program doesn't mean you wont ever get to be with them...hope none of this sounds rude

  7. Your friends are only a click away with todays technology. TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY. The time will go by faster then you  think. My daughter chose cosmetology after high school. She has had her state license for over a year now. She has been a make up and hair stylist at fashion shows starting locally for a friend that went to fashion design school and even has been a stylist and modeled at a major show in Vegas. She was blessed to have an aunt who manages a specialty salon and has been working full time ever sense she got her license.Cosmo can take you places. Good luck. Hope to read about some of your experiences.
