School pictures.... any tips?

I have school pictures next week and i was wondering if i anyone would give me some tips on a few things.

So this year we get to choose the color of our back ground, should i choose blue, gray, red, purple, or green? and why would you choose that (if you have a reason).

We also get to choose our "pose". There are 4 options:

1. A zoomed out shot of our whole body with our arms crossed

2. a shot of us sitting showing our whole body

3. a what i call "typical' school pic shot of your shoulders up

4. a really zoomed in pic of our face.

I don't think i want opion 4 or the color green.

Also what colors would be best to wear with each back ground?

And is it bad to wear a patterned blouse?

I just want this pic to turn out good so thats why i have so many questions!

thanks alot to anyone who answers!

  1. ok the background I think should be purple, since it's Unique

Pose: option 2 because, Op. 1 not a good pose 4 a school pic Op. 3 is to ordinary, and Op.4 some peoples faces are bad (Pimples, Red...etc), I would suggest a white blouse which would be nice, and a pattern blouse isn't bad at all if it has blue in it for your eyes, but white would be just fine. Something casual like this is ok:

But i'm a guy so idk, Just my opinion. Hoped I Help.

  2. choose pose #3 if your heavy you can stick out your chin and look better

    w/ blue wear orange

    w/ gray anything

    w/ red wear green

    w/ purple wear yellow

    w/green wear red

its all about compliment colors. Trust me, im a painter

  3. For school pictures.......i would do shot #3.......the rest of the shots that show your whole body may make you look awkward, and then you have to worry about your pants and shoes.........

For a backround......i like to use gray.......because if you get blue or green, they digitize it so weird that it's really bright, and red and purple make you focus more on the backround than the person.......

For your shirt.....wear something simple that compliments you and your face.........simple is key..........and a little design with a dark purple shirt would look good on you........

    hope this helps.........

  4. do all of them

  5. Jeeeze. It sounds like taking a photo for your driver license.

    I think I'd choose number 3.

  6. do all of them!!

  7. I would say a blue background and pose 3. The other poses just leave too many chances to look awkward. Wear a solid color shirt with a nice collar, something like red, blue, or green, whatever looks best with your skin and hair color. You could go all crazy with all the different options but sometimes simple is best because the focus of a good picture should really be you. People will remember your face more than your body.

I have blue eyes too and I've always noticed that my eyes seem to absorb the colors I'm wearing. If I wear a bright blue shirt, my eyes look bright blue. I really think you can never go wrong with too much blue, especially if you have blue eyes.

Find a box of crayola crayons and pick out cerulean. It's the best color for me.

  8. After over 30 years as a portrait photographer I feel qualified to make a few suggestions here. Pick pose 1 or 2 only if you are slim, 3 if you have a tummy. Base the background color on your clothing choice and body style...tone on tone is slimming, contrasting colors if you are a good weight or thin. In clothing you are correct, stay away from patterns, black or white. Choose solid bright colors. Blue eyes will actually stand out more on the grey background. Stay away from lip gloss. I have too many young ladies pile it on and end up with big white spots on their lips. In fact, stay away from any make up that sparkles.

Just an opinion, you say you don't want green...I haven't seen the shade of it, but normally fair blonds look wonderful on green because it pulls the pink tones out of their skin.

Relax, have fun and I hope you have a great picture!

  9. Blue would look pretty with your skin tone.  Don't wear anything white, it will wash out your face with the flash photography.  Don't get your hair cut right before the picture, you may not like it.  Pink shimmer lip gloss is nice.  Wear your hair up if it's long.  Have an up do or down and in the front or swept to one side.  Wear a little mascara too.  Otherwise keep it down on the make up.  What's your color?  I am betting pink?  Pastels?  I don't like the idea of the arms crossed.  It's great for guys.  Zoomed in on the face can bring out the zits and close up disasters. Patterned blouses are ok.  Not to faddish.  I like the zoomed out with hands crossed, very lady like.  You have to be thin or have a good figure and good posture.
