i was wondering...how long is elementary, middle, high school? (in years?)

i live in canada, we dont really have a 'middle' school

our system is

Kindergarden - junior then senior

Grade/elementary school (in the same school)

Gr.1-8 (then graduate to high school)

Highschool- gr.9-12

is the system in the U.S the same?

  1. Depends on where you go.  Typically, it works like:

elementary school - kindergarten (one year) and grades 1 - 6

    middle school - grades 7 and 8

    high school - grades 9 - 12

The years in the middle shift around sometimes.  I've seen middle schools that started in grade 6, and I've seen them go as far as grade 9.  That last one always puzzled me - how can you be a freshman in high school but attending a middle school?  Well, no one ever said bureaucracies had to make sense.  Or, if someone said it, they were wrong.

  2. U.S. School system:

Typically speaking, Kindergarten is for ages 4 - 5 sometimes 6.

    Elementary school: Grades 1 - 5 (ages 5-10)

Middle School: Grades 6-8 (ages 11-14)

High School: Grades 9-12 (ages 15-19)

I wouldn't say the school system is too different, just in the inclusion of middle school is all the difference :)
