I would like to be a flight attendant, and I've heard that having a college degree gives you a higher chance of getting hired. What classes should I take in college to benefit me in getting the job?

  1. What is it about being a flight "attendant" that interests you?

Breathing dirty air?  Being surrounded by tired, angry passengers?  Or, is it the holidays away from home, missing birthdays and family get-togethers?   Is it being treated like dirt by inept, despicable, management?  Or, is it the transient lifestyle and miserable pay which will allow you absolutely no social or family life?     And your going to pay for college to do this??   Run away from being an "attendant" and do something constructive with your talents.

  2. Having a college degree in pretty much anything increases your chances...

I guess it ensures that you're better able to absorb the enormous amount of information given to you when you do your flight attendant training. Not to say that if you don't have a college degree  you won't do well in F/A school, but you might struggle a bit more. There's a lot to absorb in a short time.

Let me warn you... flight attendants do not make a lot of money. The economy is in the sh*tter, so people are traveling less... this will eventually lead to layoffs. I don't know if you've been reading up on things in aviation, but many airlines are merging in order to deal with the losses.

Pick a college degree in something you can get a decent job in if you don't get into aviation or get laid off. Like accounting... I wish I had gotten my degree in that. Good luck!

  3. Not sure about the classes but get a degree in something that you could have a good job in just in case your airline has a ton of layoffs and you happen to be one.

But for the flight attendant part, the airline will train you.

    Good luck and have fun!

  4. Get a degree in anything, but make sure you learn at least one foreign language.  That will probably help you more than even having a degree.  Good luck.
