Schooling for my kid of 10 years, preferably, New York City

I do not live in the USA. My kid has got a tourist visa for five years. This will be his first visit. He is going to the USA as a tourist. Please

guide me on following matters:

1- If I want to admit to my kid in a school in USA on this tourist visa, is it possible or not.

2- If yes, which location/schools will be suitable for fifth grade student.

3- Total expenses, I need to spend on monthly basis.

4- Presently, he lives in a non-English speaking country.

5- My preference area is New York City, however, I am open for other

places also.

6- My son is born in overseas and is PIO.

7. Kindly give me complete guidance on everything from names/location of good schools, how to apply for admission, apprx.

monthly school charges, approx. monthly total expenses of staying

there, rental charges, hostel facilities, board and lodging facilities,

home rentals, does my kid(son) will first to learn English prior to

getting admission in school.

Where my son can learn English, total tuition fee, monthly charges of

board and lodging, etc.

  1. I think tourist visas are only valid for 90 days, and then you can apply to renew for an additional 90 days, but they don't allow you to stay for 5 years. And children cannot attend elementary school on a tourist visa. Talk to an immigration lawyer or check www.uscis.gov for more info.


  2. No, you can't go to school on a tourist visa. A child cannot just come to the USA alone and go to school, unless it's a boarding school. You can look on line for boarding schools which take international students in the USA, but most if not all are high schools. The US would probably look at most kids at age 10 to be too young to be in a foreign country away from their parents, especially without knowing English. Perhaps you should begin the separation process by sending your child to a boarding school in your country where he can learn English, and then consider the USA when he gets older.
