I am not to familiar with this because i live where we have Tornadoes. When do they know when to close the schools because of a hurricane? And do the students have to make up the days they miss because of the hurricane at the end of the year? And how do they estimate how many days to close the school or do they just update it as it comes? Thank you :)

  1. Yes , they close the schools when they see its heading our way because we get hit by the outer rain bands which spawn of alot off tornadoes .  Last week I missed Four days of school because of Fay , and it was only a tropical storm but caused so much damage . We got over 2 feet of rain because it somehow hung over central Florida for 3 days ...yea .. My county got hit the worst & out county was the last to pronounce school was closed because they thought it wasn't gonna hit us at all .

Turns out WE GOT HIT THE WORST . Yea they pretty much never know where its going ..none of the forecast track predicted where it was going and no one could have predicted that It was gonna hang out over Brevard county for 3 days .

My house looked like it was the middle of a river , and I live in a low lying area which means we got more rain . Brevard county got it the worst and really bad flooding .

    Hurricanes suck

& something else Gustav isn't suppose to hit us , but right now where I live were getting outer rain bands from a hurricane that's not even gonna impact us ..lol yea ...oh and Hannah ? Its coming straight for Florida ... and if it does or does not hit us theirs 2 more things out their already developing . Which I predict were gonna be missing alot more school ... We already have a 3 day weekend because of Labour day ... so yea ..lol

Anyways thier is word out they we will have to make it up on teacher planning day/student holiday .. & they are also going to take away from our winter break . BUMMER

Its different in every county tho

  2. I think they would only make-up the school days if the hurricane was small and caused not much damage. Otherwise why would all the teachers want to make kids lives miserable and remind them of devastation and destruction? Most people would leave after hurricanes and their damage.

  3. Yea you close school for hurricanes. I am in Freshman and we dont have school tuesday. We will have to make it up in the summer tho

  4. Well, I don't live in a hurricane zone, but I can imagine it works like a snow day or something. When the city tells the inhabitants to evacuate, I would imagine the school closes. Or the school board probably watches the weather and news and when they see the hurricane coming, they probably close, like a tornado or snowstorm. I guess they just open the school back up when the coast is clear.

    =)
