I currently live in GA, and I am very dissappointed in the schools for children with special needs. Their structure is horrible!

My question is what state in the USA, has good schooling for children with special needs?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

  1. Well I'm not a teacher.

  2. I live in PA and it seems like our area has excellent programs for special needs students.  They are often included into mainstream classroom as much as possible, and when it's not possible, they have their own classroom within a mainstream school setting to allow interaction between them and students of standard abilities.  I don't know if that is unique to my area, or if it's standard practice throughout the state.

  3. I work as a teacher's assistant in a special needs classroom. I find the program to be excellent. I just started this school year, so this is my first experience. There are only 7 kids, and 1 teacher, 3 assistants. We also have a speech therapist, occupational therapist, and a physical therapist who all come in on varying days of the week to do their work and to help us with group activities. More times than not, we have some one on one with the kids. They vary in ages from 9-11. The state is Massachusetts.

Before taking this job, I was a home care worker for a young girl with disabilities and her mother raved about the school program she was in, also in Massachusetts.

    Good luck

  4. I live in California, and I can honestly say that the state as a whole has litle to nothing to do with individual schools. You need to check each district individually. Good luck.
