Please let me know what is the education system in UK for 2-3 year olds and onwards. I did try to look for resources on the internet and found out that the Primary and Secondary education in UK is free. Is it true. Or if someone wants to go for a private school, how much will it cost.

Please also point me to any web resources that might be helpful.

  1. make sure you get your umbrella ready cuz we have the ugliest weather in the world. i miss America

  2. i used to go to a private school, that's when i started secondary school

my fees added up to about £23,000 a year

im not sure if it's gonna be that expensive if you are a day student

    coz i lived in schoool

and yeh primary and sec schools are free, i started community schools when i was 14

most grammar schools are free as well, but your child has to be quite brainy to get in, my point is they dont take doughnuts. child has to be 4 or 5 to get in primary school i cnt remember how old i was and cant be bothered to calculate sorry.

2-3years, so ummm put your child in a daycare or something, or a nursery.

i was at home at that age with a nanny

  3. Children in this country start primary school in the September before their 5th birthday. At 2-3 years, then there is only nursery / playgroup which you will have to fund. However, in the year before your child goes to primary school, they will be eligible for a certain amount of nursery school free.

Education between the ages of 4 and 18 is free, or rather funded through everyone's taxes. Private schools are usually around £3000 a term, which must be funded by a parent / relative etc. and there are 3 terms in a year, plus you need to factor in the cost of uniform and trips and whatnot. However, they do tend to have better exam results than state schools. Personally, I don't think it's worth sending your child to a private school for primary education - much better to send them for secondary school when they will get qualifications. Have you looked at the league tables? They show you which are the best schools in the country and in various cities. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/lea...

  4. The United Kingdom education system is divided into five parts which are the: preschool, primary school, secondary/public school, career and vocational and university. Must attend school from five to fifthteen (15) years old.Children may start nursey tp primary education to age eleven (11). Then to secondary school till sixteen (16) when they take the general certificate if secondary education test. After this they may go to college or to high school for another two (2) years, they go to the university for three to four years to get there degree. Education is free except for the university. The school year is 39 weeks long. Hope this helps.

  5. Children only start school at four in the UK. Before that they go to nursery or playgroups which you have to pay for.

In general the English state education system is very good and produces excellent standards, most people go to these state schools. Yes, they are free to all UK residents.

The private schools are for the rich or the elite. They dont generally have very different results from the free schools. The costs differs depending on the school.

  6. in England children start school at 4 but can go to nursery before hand, state schools are free in England and the standard of education in some is the same as some of the private schools, however for 2 very good private schools check out Felsted and Gordonstons

  7. Pre-school starts between 2 and 3 years depending on the pre-school.  From the term after a child turns three they are entitled to 5 * 2.5 hour sessions at a preschool funded by the government.  Pre schools follow the birth to three matters curriculum.

Attendance at a state school is free or rather funded through the taxation system.

You will not get much change from 10K UKP per annum for fees with the uniform and out of school activities etc on top.  This varies between schools as they are run as businesses and set their own fees.

  8. Hi - state schools are free but the class sizes are approx 30 children - the results and quality of teaching are variable - you can look for the ofsted reports and use these to help guide your choice - however to support this I would suggest you go and have a look around as the feel for the school can be much more sensitive than reports and league table. I moved to an area that didnt have a good choice of state school - in that the good schools had already been allocated, I did allow my son to go to the open morning trial of a school that didnt have a great reputation - but I thought I would give it a go as my choices were very limited - I couldnt face sending him to the school - whilst the teachers were very motivated - there resources and support systems were limited - I felt as though this was the most important decision I was making for my child. Following this visit - I also took him to a private school - we enrolled him there as I had much more confidence in the support systems he would receive - he has come on leaps and bounds - he has personal reading every day - his confidence and manner is lovely - I know this is down to parental responsibility as well - but in combination its fantastic - we are very working class people and it costs us approx 2500 per term - but it is the greatest investment I can make in his future - however if we had had a good state school to choose from - I would not have chosen this route - but I am pleased I did. It isn't that I want him to be a professional flyer - I want him to have the social skills and confidence to be able to hold himself in any situation !
