We will be moving to Nogales, Mexico to live there, and I have to children whom need to go to school, one in 8th grade and the other in 10th grade.

My question is how does one go about getting kids in school over there and does anyone know if the classes are all strictly taught in Spanish?

  1. Yes, the classes are all strictly taught in spanish... it is mexico, the official language is spanish!

They should pick up the language rather quickly being fully immersed in spanish, tv, friends, everywhere and everything..

they'll have to use some critical listening skills, and understanding. it shouldnt be a real problem, about 1 mo. of full immersion in Mexico can probably cover the equivalent 3 years of Spanish at  high school and maybe more.

if they have some knowledge of spanish, then it should be somewhat easier

  2. If your children are not Mexican, they will have to go to private school. You may want to visit the following web site to find the schools that scored the highest in the Mexican Education Ministry Exam (Prueba Enlace SEP).

For your 8th grader you need to find a "secundaria", and you need a "preparatoria" or "bachillerato" for your 10th grader.

I think probably Colegio Pedro de Gante might be a good option for you because it is ranked in 2nd place in Nogales and it has both secundaria and bachillerato.

I don't believe there is an american school in Nogales, so the answer is yes, all clases will be taught in Spanish. If your children don't speak much Spanish, maybe you should look for a smaller school, where they will get more personal attention.

    I hope this helps.
