  1. look at the FAA web site for a list of approved schools.

  2. It really depends on where you live.  First and foremost is Embry-Riddle they have a main campus in AZ. and their course content is very complete.  Most graduates of their program end up not only with their Airframe and Powerplant certificates but usually end up going on to aeronautical engineering.  Another way to go is look at your local community collage as may have a Airframe Maintenance Program that fall within the Part 147 requirements for obtaining your Airframe and Powerplant certificates.  The only down side to going this route is that they usually have limited recourses to train you on and they will try to do it as fast as possible to keep the cost of the program down.  Either way is going to provide you with the proper requirements for taking your written exams with the FAA and your Oral and Practical exams with a DME so that you can obtain you certificates.

  3. I attended a Part 147 aviation school in California.  There are two type of Part 147 aviation school public and private.  Big difference in the amount of money you will pay for the same education.  Here in California its about $2500 for the entire program and a private school is around $27,000.

You can find Part 147 schools all over the country by going to:

    http://av-info.faa.gov/MaintenanceSchool...

I would recommend a college Part 147 school myself that way you can earn a AA or AS degree along with you’re A&P training.
