Schumacher: 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix will reveal real pace of the cars – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver, Michael Schumacher is hoping to get a clearer vision about the standing of his team against the contenders at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix going to held at Sepang International Circuit as he predicts that it will reveal the true pace of
the cars.
Schumacher made his comeback in F1 couple of years ago after he took the retirement back in 2006. In 2010, he struggled throughout the season and was completely outperformed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg. However, he made a reasonably good comeback in the
next season.
The seven-time world champion, Schumacher topped the timesheets during the FP2 on Friday. Moreover, the Brackley based team had quite a reliable pre-season this year as compared to the last one in which they could hardly be able to test the car before the
first race.
Furthermore, Schumacher had a disappointing start in the first race as he was retired from the third place due to an issue in the gearbox. Nevertheless, he said that Albert Park circuit was not the best predictor of how a car would perform in the season
ahead.
“After the disappointment of how the first race in Melbourne turned out, I am flying to Malaysia with a big sense of anticipation, because we saw in Australia that our car is capable of putting us in the mix,” he said. “Of course, we haven't forgotten that
the circuit in Melbourne is not really representative of the true competitive picture, but nevertheless the car gives me a good feeling for the season ahead.”
Besides, he said that Sepang would be out of the ordinary as it would provide the hint about the real pace of the cars.
Regardless of good performance at the qualifying, Mercedes could not score any points in the first GP because Nico Rosberg faced problems with the tyre degradation and was dropped off to 12th place after the last lap. Nonetheless, Ross Brawn, the team principal
said that W03 was much more competent.
“We have a fundamentally good car, now it is up to us to optimise its performance and achieve its potential on track,” said Brawn.
