Three times world champion, Sir Jackie Stewart not only stays unimpressed by Michael Schumacher’s performance this year but also believes that the German is taking a wrong decision by staying in the sport for yet another season.
While talking to the media earlier today, Stewart said that now the racer must win next world championship in a very dignified manner or else quit racing ‘with his tail between his legs’ if he decides to stay with the sport for another season.
When Stewart was asked if Schumacher has done a wrong thing by returning to the track he replied,
“I think he has, unless he is able to come back next year and win the world championship in a resounding fashion. But I rather think it will be difficult for him to do that.”
The seven times world champion and statistically the most successful racer on earth, Schumacher, made his way back to the sport last year after a gap of three years. The team as well as the fans of the legendary racer were disappointed to see the performance
of the 41-year-old all through the season. However, the driver and his team gave the excuse that this year’s car and especially the tyres did not suit his racing style. However, Stewart simply negated the justification saying that Schumacher simply made far
too many mistakes which is a surprise to see from a man of his stature.
While discussing the driver’s season with the reporters this morning Stewart told,
“It seems Schumacher likes a very pointy car and the brain of the car is over the front wheels. I've never felt that's the best way for a car to be driven. It means that it's very nervous in the front end and he seems to like that.”
He further added that he cannot smell great finishes by the driver next year either. With a young team-mate like Nico Rosberg, who has outperformed the driver all through the season, Stewart believes that much similar results will be seen once again.
He concluded saying that as many times as Schumacher has gone off the track this year, doesn’t show that it was a car’s suitability problem. Rather he believes Schumacher was overdriving, trying too hard to achieve something not possible for him now.
