Schumacher reveals his ambitions for the 2011 F1 season
Mercedes are launching their new car on the 1st of February and it will be called MGP W02. This car will be driven by last season's Mercedes pair Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. However, strangely, they have not announced their test driver
yet.
Schumacher revealed his ambitions for this season and seemed quite confident when asked how he felt ahead of the competition.
“I'm here on a mission and I want to succeed. I want to perform and I'm going to put 100 per cent into it,” said the seven-time Champion. He further stated that if he wasn’t able to be pull the feat off, then he would try to achieve it in 2012; his contract
with Mercedes ends that year.
Michael Schumacher returned to the circuit in 2010, after a three year gap and wasn’t so impressive that season. Scoring 72 points, Schumacher was 70 points behind his team-mate, ‘the play station generation’ Nico Rosberg.
When asked about his performance in the 2010 season, Schumacher said, “In the history of Formula 1, when does it ever happen that you come back straightaway from this level to win in just one year? Very rarely”
The German is a record holder with seven Championships, winning 5 of them consecutively from 2000 to 2004, and looks really confident to take his Championship tally to 8.
Michael will be facing a strong competition from the current Champion Sebastian Vettel, two-time Champion Fernando Alonso and 2008 Champion Lewis Hamilton. Last year, the fastest car on the grid was without doubt Red Bull’s RB6. Although Sebastian Vettel
won the Championship, many would argue that the strongest driver in the competition was Fernando Alonso, especially in the latter half of the season. Hamilton, on the other hand, is also termed as one of the favourites to win the title with McLaren’s new package.
The competition doesn’t get any easier for the seven-time World Champion, since this season, 5 World Champions would be present at the starting grid. However, the German would be fancying his chances since he was pretty happy with introduction of Pirelli
tyres to the sport and seems confident about the new Mercedes package as well.
Will the seven-time World Champion go against all the odds and lift the Formula 1 trophy for a record 8th time, only time will tell.
