Schumacher to set-off his ‘final season’ in the midst of questions – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher is about to set-off his final season of the three-year F1 comeback with loads of questions being unanswered. Meanwhile, the hopes of his team Mercedes remain subdued after the disappointing results from the veteran German driver.
Seven-time world champion, legendary Schumacher made his reappearance in F1 during 2010 after he took his retirement in 2006.
However, unfortunately his return has not come up to the expectations of his fans while the critics of the great driver got the chance of raising questions as he struggled during his first year of comeback and was completely outperformed by his teammate,
Nico Rosberg.
Nonetheless, the iconic champ improved his performance in the following season to a fair extent and he stood fourth in the Canadian Grand Prix.
Furthermore, recently, he expressed a lack of confidence for the first race of the forthcoming season. However, he said that the first GP would provide the team with solid information which would help in the evaluation of the upgrades being done in the car
during the pre-season.
“Victory to me is unlikely, I see Red Bull in front,” Schumacher said. “Behind them it will be tight, and you can be either hero or zero very quickly. It will come down a lot to the ability of how well you will be setting up your car to the respective track.”
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn asserted that he had confidence in both the team drivers for the forthcoming season.
“Both drivers are capable of winning. There's no doubt in my mind about that,” said Brawn.
Besides, Schumacher was quite confident about the reliability of the new car W03 for the upcoming season.
“There is potential,” said Schumacher. “I do not have a clear picture yet. What we can say though is that the gap between several teams will not be as big as it was last year.”
Schumacher’s contract with his team would end after 2012 and there had been many speculations about Lewis Hamilton replacing Schumacher afterwards but it is quite uncertain so far.
Moreover, it would be interesting to mention, Rosberg said that he would be pleased if Schumacher continues to be in the team.
