Schwartz hopeful of safety Jonathan Delmas returning for Chargers game – NFL News
With Detroit Lions preparing for San Diego Chargers to secure their first playoff spot since last making it to the post season in 1999 Coach Jim Schwartz has stated that his team is fully fit and all players in contention for a
spot.
"Whether or not they'll play or not, still way too early to tell, but I think everybody's going to be at least in consideration ..." he said.
This includes safety Louis Delmas who underwent surgery this week to repair a broken knee.
Coach Schwartz believes that in spite of surgery the free safety will be in contention for the Chargers game on Saturday and he is currently day-to-day. Delmas however, did not take part in practice on Tuesday.
"I guess you could say he's day to day," Schwartz said. "You could call it a minor scope on his knee (arthroscope). Barring anything that comes out of this game, we don't have anybody that's more than day to day."
The safety suffered the injury during the Lions 27-15 defeat at the hands of Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day. The injury caused the player to miss the next three games of the Lions but the rest of the team stepped up to the
task winning two of their next three games and almost securing their foothold on the National Football Conference Wildcard playoffs spot.
The Lions players are looking forward to the return of Delmas and have praised his ability to get the defence on the same page.
Cornerback Chris Houston said, "It's very big missing Lou. With Lou back there, I mean, y'all talking, y'all see something and y'all communicate and you can do it. But with the other guys, you kind of got to just play what's called."
The Lions won their last game 28-27 in a thriller against Oakland Raiders. The Lions were down 27-14 in the final quarter but two quick fire touchdown passes from quarterback Matthew Stafford led the Lions to victory and come closer
to reaching the wildcard playoffs spot.
The victory made the Lions the only team since 1950 to comeback to win four games from a deficit of thirteen points or more.
With Chargers to face on Saturday the Lions will be looking forward to playing in a sold out Ford Field Arena and counting on their fans to put up a brilliant atmosphere and with no crucial players out for the long term the Coach
can easily concentrate on the task at hand sending out his best side.
