The Bayern Munich midfielder has claimed that he had no intention of ignoring the President’s handshake and admitted that he was distraught at that time.
Bayern Munich lost the UEFA Champions League final at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, May 19, to Chelsea and were deprived of the chance to lift their fifth crown. The home side were clearly the dominant side throughout the course
of 90 minutes but the finishing was poor and there were a host of missed opportunities.
Bastian Schweinsteiger’s penalty hit the post after which http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 won the game.
The midfielder was shell shocked with the miss and was inconsolable as he sat down in disbelief. The player reportedly snubbed the German president’s handshake when the teams went to pick their runners-up medals which has been
the talking point in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 for the past few days.
Schweinsteiger clarified on the incident and claimed that he had no intention of disrespecting the President and admitted that he was hugely disappointed at that moment. He insisted that he was paralysed and did not notice the
gesture by the president.
The German international offered his apology if he had caused any disrespect or if he had left a different impression.
“This is a misunderstanding. After this great disappointment, I perceived nothing around me. I was desperately disappointed, paralysed. I did not see the hand of the federal president. I'm sorry that this moment gave a different
impression. I want to apologise to the president,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
On the other hand, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hailed the club’s fans for all the support throughout the season on behalf of the club.
“Despite the defeat, despite the shock and the grief, they behaved with dignity, style and Bavarian hospitality. On behalf of FC Bayern, I wish to warmly thank you for that,” he stated in a statement issued on Bayern’s website.
