Schwinn Men's Varsity Road Bike (700C)?

Question

I found this bike, link's at the bottom. It seems rather appealing, since it's only $220, but I'm not sure if it'll fit, since it doesn't give measurements on height. I'm 5'4"...that height increases to 5'5" with my shoes on. Hoping somebody happens to know about/own a Schwinn Varsity...

There is a difference between price and value. Unfortunately the bike is very poor.

I suggest looking for a good used bike or talking with someone in a local shop to discuss your needs, but you should absolutely AVOID the Varsity from Walmart ot Target or any other discount store.

WHAT A CROC! Either these "reviews" are phony, or the people who buy these bikes don't know what they are talking about: ("I've had it for three weeks and I've ridden it four times for at least a mile each time and it hasn't broken once.")

I know this bike well and it is an unmitigated piece of junk. I predict the average one will go about 50 miles before some major mechanical failure sends it, unrideable, to the shop. The components are cheap, the fabrication is primitive, the materials are crummy and it weighs a ton.

$220 looks like a bargain, but after you replace everything that breaks after those 50 miles, I guarantee you'll spend half again as much on repairs (at least)...and you'll still have the same wretched bike. Plus if you do invest the time and effort in riding enough to get fit, you deserve something that won't hamper you but will actually be fun to ride.

$220 will get a nice used bike off Craigslist or Ebay.

its from wal-mart, and its a new schwinn. steer clear. check around local bike shops for consignments or trade in bikes. there is also craigs list and e-bay. just don't give your money to wal-mart. as for schwinn, the new bikes are notorious for being c**p.
