Question:

Schwinn Sprint 700C Road Bike?

I saw this bike on strollers.com...not sure how reliable Schwinn starter road bikes are, but this one seems to be a good deal ($460 to $184). The link's below if you need more info..

I'm also wondering if it'll fit me...I'm a 5'5" rider and most sites don't do that calculation for you; wondering if anybody who owns one can tell me.

Lastly, I was confused by mixed comments I get about Schwinn starter road bikes; I'm not sure if they're good or not. Friends tell me they're decent, while most online responses tell me they completely suck...thoughts?

Thanks

  1. For the price........it's fine.  You get what you pay for.  It's heavy and a little small.

However, if you intend to get serious you'll tire of this bike pretty fast.    It's of dubious quality.

Then again...if it's stolen you aren't out too much.

Best advice...go to your local bicycle shop.  They service what they sell and it's worth the extra $$$.   Whatever you buy, get the best wheels you can afford (that's where it makes the biggest difference)

  2. I wouldn't recommend it. In my opinion, its a crappy bike. Schwinn is well known for the classic bikes but their bikes today aren't that great.I believe the lower end Trek, Bianchi, or even Cannondale models are probably better than that Schwinn.

  3. I looked at one of these the other day.    It was assembled, for display purposes (K-mart, I think??)

The drive train components are of low quality (for the asking price, this is understandable, surely?) and it is really a heavy cycle.

When one talks about a 'road' bike, this is an abbreviation for 'roadracing'.   The only type of roadracing for this Schwinn would be geriatric.  Your geriatric opponents would need to be walking, furthermore.

It is quite a good looking bike however.

If you are keen on cycling, I would recommend you spend a bit more, preferably at a shop that will service your  bike afterwards....
