Question:

Schwinn road bike?

First, let me start out by saying I am completely non bike-savvy. So any and all help on the subject are greatly appreciated, and please don't laugh or be snarky-- i'm trying.

i am really interested in getting a road bike (as i have been previously adviced because of the places where i plan to ride) but i don't know very much about them. I will use the bike mostly for short distances (like getting to a friend's house,) recreational purposes, and maybe even getting to and from school. Also, I am looking at used bikes from craigslist.

Are there any devestating differences between men and women's road bikes? I know there will obviously be differences in structure and measurements, but since I am not an extreme biker, is it a huge factor? I am aware that a women's bike will fit me better but they're harder to find used in my area.

And my last question, are there any details I should be specifically aware of when looking at used road bikes?

Thank you!! =)

  1. if your not going to be competitive or rid long distances a shwinn sounds like a near perfect match.  they are good bikes for non-serious riders and are reasonably priced.  make sure you know that the size is right for you, sometimes the shwinns can run a little bit smaller.  if your getting it off craigslist, make sure the owner didnt put a super long neck on, and makesure you get the mileage from them.

  2. Schwinn makes bikes from Wal Mart cheapies to high end racing bikes. They should have something for you, but they aren't the only bike around either. A female fit isn't always the best for women. You just need to try them to find what's best, as a woman I own a standard road bike as it fits me better than the woman spcific fit bikes. So don't get hung up on it but look into it if you have a chance.

  3. "Which is a better bike, a Trek or a Specialized?

Or Cannondale or Orbea or Scott or Schwinn or Cervelo. We're asked "Which brand is better?" almost daily. While each brand has its diehard fans, we can't answer the question. It's not because of any political reason, but because it's not the right question to ask--you're buying a bicycle, not a brand. .."
