Okay I believe i got the full blown symptoms. The pain runs down from my lower back down to my right butt check then to the groin/hamstring skips the calve and goes to my last two small toes on my right foot and it gets worse when i sit for a bit and then stand. I researched it and that sounds like Classic Sciatic nerve probs....Question is whats best? Ice or heat? Also does anyone know ways to try to fix it? Home remedies first then Dr. and what not. I got Heat, Ice, ben/g*y and stretching/exercises i can do. Just to fill you in I got hurt in Iraq a few years ago and had surgery done and it was anything but good...it made my prob worse and makes me walk kinda funny, now I hear that me walking funny might cause by back to tweak and cause my nerve to pinch. If you can help me and need more details just send me a message. I don't want no dumb answers like "go to a DR" I am willing to go but wanna see what I can do first. Thanks for the help people!

  1. i feel for you. kind of depends on the cause. you've probably had an mri. treatment/ relief depends is it a disk, a bone spur?... generally inflamation is the problem so be sure till you get to the doc to take 6 to 8 hundred mg. ibuphrophen 3 times a day , mild activity nothing strenouos. heat brings fluild to the site which, in turn can increase swelling, so ice is better. unless it's old then do whatever feels the best. you also  have to consider that it's a new injury. I'm a nurse so good luck

  2. I have suffered with Sciatica for 8 years. I have been trying to avoid surgery. I will give you this website and you can enter in your information about spinal decompression. I was on disability, now I am able to work. I hope a doctor near you has this. There is no pills to take and does not cause any pain. I actually slept while taking the treatments. Insurance does not cover it. FDA has approved it, but the insurance companies still have it as experimental.

I hope this helps and I know what you are going through. I would not wish the pain on anyone.

  3. Rather than only sciatica I refer you to TMS, then see what you have.

Just a beginning, look or google many.

    Also, not ice.  It's heat.

  4. I developed a bulging disc between lumbar 4 and 5 by running too much on the jogging trail. I'll tell you what I did. You'll have to decide what is applicable in your case. By the way, ice works better than heat, which is one of my items below. Good to have you back from Iraq. Take Care.

    1) My chiropractor recommended taking daily doses of 100 mg. of Vitamin B6.It strenghthens nerves. I noticed an improvement in 4 to 6 weeks.

    2) Aleve is a good NSAID medication that is sold over the counter.

The doctor can prescribe a stronger form of the drug in the name Naproxen. The doctor can also prescribe Tramadol which is a narcotic and good pain reliever.

    3) The lunge exercise is good for sciatic conditions.

An example is at the bottom of this site:

    4) I bought the Teeter inversion table. You can invert yourself partially

or completely for spine decompression. It feels great.

It costs a few hundred but I like it. Why pay for decompression treatments when you can do it yourself?

    5) Back ice packs (they connect with velcro) you can buy them at most pharmacies

    6) I purchased the Rebuilder 2407 Electronic Stimulator (information at the site below).

This product was intended for a variety of ailments including nerve damage due to diabetes but I found it helpful when the electrical attachments are placed slightly to the right and left of the spine where the bulging disk occurs. In my case,  just slightly lower than waist level to the right and left of the spine. They want $699 for this, so it's something to consider even though it's a little expensive. I bought the more expensive model since it had the AC adapter associated

with it rather than just the battery (and so it supplies more power). It definitely makes you feel good when you use it.
