Science Fair Project Question!?

I was doing a science fair project with a partern. The question was his choice. It was : Does what is in the water effect how fast it evaporates? We put water in with sand, rocks, pebbles, dirt, and left some standing. I had the water with sand and dirt. My water had all evapoated within 7 days. His still has water in them. I was wondering if anyone knew why this is or if there really is no difference and he just screwed it up. (He had covered his containers for the first few days) Any help in appreciated!

  1. This isn't the best source, but the only one I could find and it will work...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporation...

  2. in doing your experiment did you consider intervening variables? did you place that set-up in  same place!are the set-ups have same room temperature!does it have same amount of water?

if you consider such things definitely the water with sand will stay  longer for the reason that it has a heavier accounts or composition!not like the fresh water or water alone which is lighter!

    hope it helps

    God bless!takecare!

  3. they should be the same... u both screwed up... dont change a varible like a covering if u want good data... i did a project in 8th grade... by myself... placed 3rd...
