Question:

Science Fair project: What should I do?

If you could provide some original ideas, it would be highly appreciated. I have a couple ideas, but I would like to gather some more and decide on the best one.

My Ideas:

- Does salt water retain more heat than fresh water?

- Which is the strongest shape (already did some experiments on this and found that the cylinder can carry the most weight)

- Do clouds affect the amount of light that strike the earth? (I don't know how to experiment on this one)

Thanks!!

  1. Teachers love projects with electricity and magnetism.

A really simply and cheap project that usually surprises people is a Leyden Jar. It is basically a plastic jar or Tupperware that is lined on the inside and outside with aluminum foil. The foil on the outside does not touch the foil on the inside. When you hold the inside foil up to a TV screen, it will store an imbalance of charge. Then try to connect the two layers of foil, and a spark will jump. (You can also shock people with it). It is much simpler than my rudimentary explanation makes it seem; check out this link:

There are also other options. You can build a simple motor or a solar cell, and you can do many things with fire. Try out this website:

  2. Get the water tested at your house.

Get the water tested at your school.

Get the water quality report from your city.

Compare the results and talk about anything that is a concern.

You can find kits online or some companies that sell water treatment systems will check it for a small fee.

  3. what grade are you in?

  4. Maybe...

    -What causes tsunamis?

-Which orange juice has the most viatamin C(can, frozen, bottled, ect.)?*

There are lots more but, most people I know got their experiment with their own intrests

    *= requires experiment

Sorry I did not have that much but, every bit counts!

  5. how about:

which paw do dogs use more..

u can test them bye laying them dwn and when they stand up to walk check wich one the use...

u can do that with cats and u can also expiriment with them by playing with yarn and see which hand they use most often..

  6. There are many websites for you to look at if you do a search on "science fair ideas."  Your local library will also have books that help you decide upon a topic or guide you through one.  Sometimes if you have a topic idea but don't know how to proceed, you can do a search on that topic and find guidance.   By the way - unless you can think of something very unique, stay away from plant projects.  They are a dime a dozen.  Good luck!

  7. Which is the strongest shape? that one might be good because you already know how to experiment on that one. and just try your best, you might win.

  8. Here's what I did:

I bought three of the same plant, and for two weeks, watered them with different things:  Coffee, orange juice, and water.  The one with the coffee was doing better for a while.  Just record what you see, and take pictures.

  9. take about 10 small baby food jars and cut  10 earth worms and show they will survive an grow back find out why they can do this and make a couple of posters on it.
