I need three topics for Science Fair this year. I am having problems coming up with acceptable topics though. They have to be advanced high school or college level. I have tried searching the internet but I come up with are topis that are not acceptable. I just need a topic or question that gives me a direction to go in with my reasearch.

By the way, topic from these sites:

http://www.science-fair-projects-online.com/

http://www.exploratorium.edu/science_explorer/index.html

http://members.aol.com/ScienzFair/ideas.htm

have already been deemed "below grade level, unoriginal and therefore unacceptable".

Any help is greatly appreciated!

  1. You could use a glass prism to absorb sunlight and reflect the colors of the spectrum onto a dark board or wall, and you could see if any portion of the colors are absorbed, and if they are, you could research which chemical elements absorb these wavelengths of light, thus creating a rough estimate of the elements in the sun's atmosphere. This is called Spectroscopy. That is the only one I can think of. I've never tried it but it's worth a shot.

  2. what are the effects of mold? stuff like that???

  3. Pick up a science book that interests you. Read until you find a topic that you want to learn more about or a statement that you want to test. There's your project.

I once challenged a statement in my histology book that there was no plankton in cave water. While I couldn't disprove the null hypothesis, I did earn a good grade and developed pre-packaged reagents before the Hach Company ever put them on the market.

  4. you know the people who play music with wine glasses??

try seeing if the sound changes based on what is in the glass

    water, juice, honey, etc.

    experisment with different viscocities
