  1. When something is quantitative, it mean that it can be counted or measured.  So a quantitative observation might be to count the number of leaves on a species of flower, to measure how tall they get, or to find the density of wood from a particular tree.

    A qualitative measurement is when something is described (the "quality" is recorded).  An example here might be the a soil type, or bedrock type in which a species grows, or the color of flowers that result in the crossing of two parents.

    An inference means that you form a conclusion based on your observations.  If you found that a plant produced more leaves and taller growth in soil A, which has a pH of 6.0 than B 7.5, you might infer that the plant grows better in acidic soils.
