  1. 1. a practical application of scientific principles would just be boiling water or freezing it, turning it from a liquid to a solid or a liquid to a gas.

    2. protons generally define an element because the number of protons in the atom is what makes it unique from other atoms.

    3. solid

    4. i'm not sure what this question is asking?

    5. protons and neutrons.

  2. 1. ?

    2. atom (an element is basically a molecule made only of one type of atom)

    3. a solid

    4. ?

    5. neutron/proton (neutron has no charge, each proton has 1 positive charge)

  3. I agree with the other answers, but it seems that number 4 is a harder question.  The answer is "plasma"  It's the fourth state of matter.  It falls somewhere between a liquid and a solid.  (If you do enough research, you'll find that glass is actually a plasma!)
