  1. I would recommend something which is affecting society now, go for climate change/global warming. That will really impress your teacher if you do that. I've just done an assignment on it and found the website: www.foe.org.uk really useful. On the left hand side of the page, there's a link to climate, it's really easy to understand, but clever stuff! Good luck!

  2. Define what you mean by 'project'.

If it's a paper, drilling in the arctic is a popular topic with skyrocketing oil prices.  Think about the benefits and hazards.  There are plenty of available sources of info on the net.

  3. Talk about how the worlds rainforests are being cut down.

  4. Select one among this and ask me for details.

  5. I did this at a science fair with my daughter when she was in middle school.

The topic was how soils and sediments act to clean groundwater.

Take a 2-litre soda bottel and cut the bottom off.  Invert the bottle, stuff the neck with cotton, then do a layer of fine sand, then coarse sand, then gravel, then dirt.

Let the students run water that you have dumped dirt into and agitated, through the bottle.  It won't make perfect water, but the removal of the particulates will be visually obvious.

This demonstrates the natural cleaning properties of percolation and how groundwater is cleaned by the sediments that is percolates through.

  6. Take pictures of different types of erosion....washed away dirt, a rusty car, tainted penny, etc.
