Science is a two-edged sword. Obviously, it can do much good for humanity, but it can also be abused and misused.

"Misused," because some laymen will accept anything that comes out in a study as being carved in stone truth. Well, I'm here to tell you, that if he wants to a researcher can make anything fit his/her bias or agenda by how they design the study.

"Abused" is similar in that often the funding for studies comes from organizations with a vested interest in the study coming out a certain way. Well if your paycheck depends on keeping the guy with the deep pockets happy, it's very tempting to play with the data.

And if you don't think these things do happen, you ain't payin' attention.

Neither. Science is a tool that can be used for good or ill, just like any other tool. Most science has both good and bad effects.

examples:

good effects:

relativity expanding knowledge of universe and allowing nuclear plants

medical science makes people live longer

computer science lets people waste even more time in front of a screen

ecology warns us of global warming

physics makes your car less likely to crush you if you crash it

you can drive your car, zoom

bad:

people living longer is against the genetic predisposition of

most mammals to die after their offspring have offspring

your car is helping destroy the earth

physicists waste a lot of time and energy theorizing about things like cosmology where they have nowhere near enough evidence to support any theory

relativity allowed the nuclear bomb, which is good if you drop the bomb but bad if you're the one it's dropped on. They are still pulling their hair out trying to stop the bomb from spreading to more countries

genetic engineering will likely cause the human species to stop evolving completely, at least in developed countries. Without natural selection, there is no evolution. Currently selection favors fat, complacent, conformist people in developed countries, so things are already bad.

running your computer is helping destroy the earth, too... it's at least 250 watts, being fueled by electricity made by coal, gasoline or ecosystem-destroying dams.

In general, science is best when it's used as science should be, as a way of evaluating complete sets of observed data, and as a tool for achieving human goals. Instead it's often used to decide those goals, or to speculate on incomplete datasets.

Without science, we'd all be dying in our 20s and 30s, sickly from disease, and we'd be playing with rocks instead of talking to each other on the internet.

Every moment of every day you are using the scientific method. We would be dead in days if somehow we lost our ability see problems, and test them to come up with results. technology, biology, physics are all just more advanced forms of what we are doing all the time.

cause we use science with our daily living or even when we are sleeping, without science......... maybe you are dead now cause you forgot to breath cause you dont know that a people needs to breath , and breathing is a part of science so that i think science is a friend but sometimes foe because it is head ache.......................................
