  1. How are you gonna communicate with your co-workers??

If you are sooooo skilled Headquarters in Tokyo will hire you.

  2. If you have a college degree you could teach English while you study Japanese, then apply for a cushy business job once you're fluent.

I met one woman over there who had a job selling like pacemakers or something, and she said she didn't use Japanese at all for her job. But I have no idea how she found it.

I study zebrafish, and I know there's tons of research that comes out of Japan, so there are definitely plenty of labs over there.

  3. It is not so easy to get a nice job in Tokyo.

It depends on each company what they want.

What kind of experiences do you have by the way?

You had better check the companies up and send resumes.

    Hope this help !!

  4. I'm thinking that the prospects for someone who only speaks English and has a science degree and 5 years of industry experience is mostly in R&D.

The short version of the story is that the R&D facility of most companies aren't in Tokyo. For example, Toshiba has a nice big R&D place in Kanagawa prefecture. Hitachi's is out in...Hitachi city. I don't think there's a pharmaceutical with R&D in Tokyo proper.

So your likely job prospect in Japan may be good to okay depending on your experience and current set of skills. Your chances of a Tokyo (corporate headquarters) job is likely better with an MBA.

Either way, you'll likely want to learn Japanese.

  5. you could teach english.

  6. Do you want to teach?!

  7. Unless you can read, write and speak Japanese at a native level, that five years will be of no value. These jobs require Japanese at an above average level.

You could get a job teaching English.
