  1. Here's a cool one!!!

Does Eye Color Affect Peripheral Vision?

    Grade Level:  8 thru 12

    Category:  Behavioral Science

Awards Won:  First Place - 2003 Batesburg-Leesville Science Fair Projects

Hypothesis:  People with dark eyes will have stronger peripheral vision. People with dark eyes tend to have bigger pupils, which let in more sunlight. Since they have bigger pupils, they have a wider range of peripheral vision.

Primary Materials Used:  Cardboard, Pushpin, Pencil, Scissors, String, Plastic Cup Piece of Wood, Glue, Markers, Protractor

Details:   Fascinating project! The student built a contraption out of the cardboard and other materials that each participant then placed up against their face with their nose in the middle. The student then moved a colored shape slowly until the participant could see it. The angle was recorded, then the colored shape was moved more until the participant could itentify what it was, and that angle was recorded as well.

Although the student's hypothesis was proven correct, she also discovered in the process of this project that she had not thought out her variables well enough to produce a reliable result. This would be a great science fair project for someone to improve upon based on this student's experience.
