  1. Many children like to see plants grow, If you put some radish seeds, or pumpkin seeds in a plastic baggie with a wet paper towel and start each bag two days after the last one your son could show the growth of the plants. They'll grow the roots and shoot up a green stem fairly quickly. I did this in my third grade class. I think I usually put three different kinds of seeds in the baggie if I was doing flowers and vegetables, and just pumpkin seeds if it was around Halloween.

A bug collection is fun, especially when the children get to catch them. You'll have to help put the bug in the jar and then put it in the freezer to kill it. Then mount it, and label it. My daughter did this one. I think the bug box is still floating around the house somewhere and that was many years ago.

A flower collection is also fun. We ran all around the area looking for wild flowers, then dried them, and mounted and labeled them. You do have to be careful because in some places it is against the law to pick wildflowers. But one little flower for a school project is often okay. My son did this one, it was a fun project for the whole family. I didn't know Southern California had so many different wild flowers. And yes, we still have this one too.

I always had my students do a Solar System styrofoam ball type display. They loved this. Most children really like space projects. They had their choice of the entire Solar System or just one planet, or the Sun, or the Moon.  I received some really interesting ones over the years. One child did a Lunar Eclipse and used a flashlight for the sun to demonstrate the eclipse.

    Hope this is helpful!

Have a good time with whatever you choose.
