  1. If you haven't read Ray Bradbury then you are missing out.

The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man are must reads!

  2. hello. Stephen Baxter is a newer science fiction author, he was 'educated' by Arthur C Clarke.

  3. Definitely give Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga a try.

David Brin: The Postman is my favorite, others are good

Orson Scott Card: Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow, and Shadow of the Hedgemon are great

HG Wells: War of the Worlds

Harry Harrison: The Stainless Steel Rat series

Adams; Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

  4. Debra Doyle and James D. MacDonald's "Mage War" series is a fun read.  Mages have blended science and magic and have declared war on the rest of the universe.  Begin with "The Gathering Flame" which is the prequel to the actual series.

Larry Niven's Beowulf Scheaffer stories are very interesting.  They are short stories which have been collected into one or two volumes.

Gibson's "Neuromancer" is about the best cyber-punk novel I have read.

Lois Bujould-McMaster's "Vorkorsigan" saga might start a little slow, but it is very good.  "Shards Of Honor" starts the epic.

Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" is good for teens, but I think the "Ender's Shadow" series is much better than the original.  However, you do need to read "Ender's Game" to make sense of it all.

Frank Herbert's "Dune" series is an absolute must.  Frankly, I am surprised you didn't list him with your other authors.

  5. robert a  and isacc asimov are definatley amongst my favorites.i think another must read is phillip k d**k.the difference with robert a & isaac is that their worlds would be good to live in,but phillip k`s worlds you would not want to live in.he wrote do androids dream of electric sheep (blade runner),we can remember it for you wholesale(total recall) & minority report.2 very good books of his are "now wait till last year"

and "doctor bloodmoney".most of his stuff that i have read is  good. i think another MUST READ is a book called "beggars in spain" by nancy cress.get a book edited by isaac asimov called "space mail"some of the finest science fiction i have read is in that book, particulary a story called"flowers for algernon" and another story called "the trap",and another called "secret unobtainable".harry harrison is a good author.he wrote the "deathworld" series.a very good trilogy of his is "west of eden" and the 2 books that came after that.all of his stuff is good.
