  1. What surfaces reflect light best?

    Mirrors

What is the law of reflection?

The angle of incidence of a beam of light equals the angle of reflection. (a beam hitting a surface at a 37 degree angle will reflect at a 37 degree angle)

    What is refraction of light?

Refraction is the bending of a wave when it changes speed.  Most often used to refer to light when it crosses a boundary between substances (like air to water, air to a prism, etc.)

    What is dispersion of light?

The spreading of a beam of light into its component wavelengths due to refraction.  This is what makes a rainbow.

What is a spectrum? (please name the colours in order)

(infrared), red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet/purple, (ultraviolet)

How do coloured light filters work?

They absorb all frequencies/wavelengths of light except the one desired (a blue filter absorbs all colors except blue).
