  1. The abbreviation for the metric unit used to measure the volume of a solid?

The correct abbreviation for solid volume is cm^3 or cc, which means cubic centimeters.

It can be explained that any object that has three dimensions will take up a certain amount of space.  That space can be measured by multiplying the depth of the object by the height of the object and multiplying by the width of the object.

So the formula is v=d*w*h, when you're finding the volume of something.  You multiply cm x cm x cm and get cm^3.

The variable setup in an experiment?

A variable is something that can be changed.  For example in the expression 2x, x is the variable.  The solution depends on how you define x.

It's similar in science.  The variable is the thing you change in an experiment.  Say you're growing four daisy plants.  If you add miracle grow to three of the four plants, your variable is the miracle grow.  The miracle grow is what you changed in the situation.

A setup that provides a standard for comparison in an experiment?

Setting up an experiment that creates a standard for comparison is quite simple.  In the example above, you would take four daisy plants with certain standards:

    - all same color

    - same height

    - same health

    - same watering

    - same soil

    - same sunlight.

With this sameness (standard), you'll be able to focus on one change to the daisy's environment: the addition of miracle grow.

And don't accuse me of being lazy until you know a little more about my home & personal life, ok?

No worries, just pick me as best answer. ;-)

  2. Cubic centimeters is used to measure the volume of a solid - cc

I don't know about the others but try asking them in the Science and Mathematics category and possibly someone there will be able to help.
